My friend was having trouble finding this scooter locally, so I let him order it on my account. When it arrived we gave it a little test drive. I must say it is quite unique, as compared with the traditional scooter. It is advertised as letting you “drift” around turns and corners. The way it does this is by using a flexible plastic-like platform where you stand on. You control the drift by leaning and balancing the weight on your rear foot, and you counter with the handle bars so you don’t lose control.
I would say this works well, but it can also be dangerous. The build quality looks OK; the platform seems like it could break if too much weight were applied on top in the wrong way. The platform is like a very flexible abs plastic attached over an aluminum tube. If you’re heavy like I used to be, use precaution. The wheels could use a smoother roll, other than that it works. The first time my friend rode it, he almost lost it, and a big grin popped on his face. He rode it for a little while, and then I had a turn. I almost twisted my ankle about 6 times, but I had a lot of fun doing it. As you can see, it’s a risky ride, but if you are aware of the dangers, and use precaution as well as common sense, you will be fine.
As a parent, I wouldn’t purchase this for my child unless they were very active, and athleticly coordinated. The main reason for this is they have to be very alert and connected with this scooter when riding it, the wrong move this way or that way, and they could seriously injure themselves. In addition to that, they would also have to be on red alert for cars, because this scooter has no brakes, which sucks, but I can understand how brakes would not work in this case.
If your child is wanting to get a scooter because their friends have scooters, I would purchase the regular model first, then this when they are ready. This model scooter is so responsive, they will have a hard time keeping up when the others are going faster, and the risk of losing control will be much greater for inexperienced riders. Of course, if you like that kind of thing, this one’s for you, and it really does that job well! Payed $69, but I have seen Amazon have this as low as or around $55
Update! Jan 2011. So much fun I had to get myself one. If you own dogs this is a great fun tool for them to pull you around the neighborhood.

I bought this for my son’s birthday and he has really enjoyed it. He also has a skateboard and a RipStik. This is actually a cross between the RipStik and a Razor scooter. It wasn’t quite what he thought it would be (he thought it would have more of the RipStik characteristics but it doesn’t) but he has adjusted and really likes it a lot. Lately he has grabbed this instead of his bike or any of the other toys when he goes out to play. I’d have to say it was a good purchase, not to mention that it was less expensive here than at a local store! Thanks, Amazon!
