A big problem with antiperspirants and other ways of treating hyperhidrosis is that you can get compensatory sweating. Your body still oversweats but it just diverts the sweat to other places in the body.

Most people with idiopathic hyperhidrosis find that it is often triggered by moments of anxiety or worrying about what might happen if people know they have an excessive sweat problem. Commonly, antidepressants are prescribed. They take a few days to reach maximum effect and are normally used for the long term.

If you only want to control your sweating for big events e.g. a public speech, a wedding, then you can take beta blockers instead which work very quickly and are not habit forming.
