Bayou Classic SP10 High-Pressure Outdoor Gas Cooker, Propane Reviewed

Its a high BTU burner that we use in brewing and for shrimp/crab boils. It produces a lot of heat and is controllable with a valve on the gas line. It goes to a fairly low output, but don’t expect it to get down as low as a gas burner on your kitchen stove. This is a very large size single burner and down low it is still going to put out a lot of heat, its just the nature of the beast. (Our kitchen stove has two sets burner orifices, one for high one for low.)

Some people have complained about the “paint” burning off. It looks like powder coating, if its really important to you, spray it with BBQ paint and be done with it. I believe that it would also burn the BBQ paint off as well, its hot!

We looked at a number of different brands of high BTU burners and this was a good unit at a good price.

The system that we received had everything necessary to hook it up to a tank and start cooking.

Product works great. Has great high BTU output. Was missing the two screws for the air mixing port though.

I use this as a burner for my kettle when brewing beer. Works amazingly fast, and is a get value for the money. The only item to be aware of is that it is somewhat of a pain to get the burner lit, when you have a kettle on top. Make certain you have one of the long handled lighters to slide under the bottom, and then above the burners to get it lit. The only way to improve this would be if there was a push button ignition, but for the price, what there is works great.

The SP10 does what it claims to do. It boils water very fast. I mostly use it for shrimp boils in Colorado. The potatoes used to take an hour on the stove. It now takes about 20 minutes. I also did an all day simmer with a pot of soup. The control valve is very sensitve at low settings but if you take your time it works.

This is a great item-durable, strong and has a good flame to it. It brings 8 gallons of water to a boil quickly and doesn’t let me down. The construction is solid, looks rust-resistant, and built to last-not too many parts to fail. My only beef is it was sent to me missing 2 screws used on the air intake-which aren’t needed at all for function, I used it for a month or two before I bothered going to Lowes and picking up screws for it. Also-the unit comes pretty much completely assembled (a plus for me!).
